When I first moved to Norway, I was really starved for good Asian food in general. All you could find in and around Stavanger were watered down, barely Chinese food, and some good Thai here and there, but Korean? Nobody even knew what South Korea was.

some noms I've bought from Yun's Kitchen over the years

Meanwhile, I had moved from a country that’s been obsessing about Korean food and pop culture for decades (Malaysia), and have been to South Korea twice to satisfy my cravings for tteokbokki, gimbap, and hot Korean eye candy - I knew what I was missing out on after being transplanted over here.

I WAS DESPERATE BASICALLY.

Anyway, apologies for being super long-winded - the point I was getting at was that you guys are super lucky with all the amazing Asian eateries that have popped up over the past decade!

She's always so smiley and fun

When I discovered that a proper Korean ahjumma (affectionate term for korean lady who’s middle aged) has opened up a little Korean takeaway in town, I RAN SO FAST TO HER SHOP. And boy was I not disappointed.

Located in Sandnes, Yun’s Kitchen is one of the few places in the region serving authentic Korean gimbap and comfort food. Her menu is small and carefully curated, as she takes pride in bringing that authentic flavor from the slice of Korea she came from, a tiny island near Busan called Geoje-do.

I’ve tried almost every dish on that menu and they all share one similarity - the clean, healthy mom-style cooking that we all miss. My absolute favorites though, are the gimbaps (especially the Bulgogi Gimbap) - they taste just like you get in South Korea, maybe even a tiny bit better. So now I generally only order those.

My favourite Korean lady in town!

Go give Yun’s Kitchen a try. You won’t regret it.
