Over the years, I’ve hunted for art classes in the Stavanger area and have only come across kulturskoler offering such courses which are often sold out and require you to sign up for an entire semester. Being a flaky millennial with limited energy after work, that was obviously too big a commitment for me.
Sometimes you come across some paint and sips, which are a lot more casual, but you don’t really learn any techniques or do proper art.

Imagine my delight when I discovered Aleksandra’s art workshops in Storhaug, Stavanger! Her workshops have a low number of maximum students (I believe up to 6 or 7 people) and last between 2.5 hours to a few sessions. The price was also incredibly reasonable, just 600nok for a cherry blossom acrylic painting workshop, all equipment provided.
I dragged my friend along and we proceeded to have a very relaxed and fun evening doing our best at painting cherry blossoms. Aleksandra was soft spoken, helpful and focused on making sure we get our techniques right.

There’s also something about being in a small, intimate class together that made it easier to chat with complete strangers, usually a complete no-no in Norway.
Aleksandra Strokina also has drop-in classes for kids on Saturdays that are very cheap (180nok per session), which is great if you want your kid to pick up some art skills.
