5 Best Hidden Asian Spots around Stavanger

When I first moved to Stavanger 11 years ago, it was almost a miracle to find authentic, delicious Asian food (besides Indian) at a price that didn’t require taking out a bank loan. 1Toko Bintang

Toko Bintang

Indonesian

Authentic Indonesian cuisine served with a side of camaraderie and charm. Puteri and her husband, the store's owners are the kindest, friendliest people you would come across in this country - in contrast, they dish up flavor explosions filled with fire and spice. If you're jittery about Indonesian cuisine cuz youve never had any, they offer free samples of everything they serve so you get a taste before making a decision. Can't say no to free food.

Yun's Kitchen

Korean

Hailing from Geoje Island in South Korea (a tiny island off the coast of Busan that i've actually personally been to!!!), Yun dishes up an array of Korean comfort food from gimbap to tteokbokki. She's my go-to for gimbap that's stuffed to the brim with authentic ingredients, and her flavor is spot on what you get from some ahjumma selling it at a hole in the wall in Geoje island.

Pandan Pandan

Malaysian, Fusion

Pandan is the Southeast Asian answer to vanilla - green and fragrant. Pandan chiffon cake itself is a colonial-era hybrid: European sponge technique meets Southeast Asian fragrance. It is not an easy feat to bake a perfectly fluffy, perfectly moist pandan cake, and Alexa over at Pandan Pandan has managed it with finesse.

Thai Street Food

Homecooked Thai food that brings up the heat - this is a small little shop on the 2nd floor of a building run by a Thai momma happy to whip up your favorite Thai munchies like radna noodles, mango sticky rice and some snacky stuff you can only find in a street food market in Thailand (available on Saturdays behind the counter).
